A tournament series by Blizzard global esports, Overwatch league may soon expect a legal battle for its logo. Upon submission for the trademark by Blizzard esports, MLB has filed an appeal to the United States patent and trademark office’s Trial and Appeal board for the extension of 90 days to oppose the Overwatch league logo.
The MLB may have a solid point considering the similarities with the OWL logo. Both logos consist of a round rectangle with two basic colors that are split by white silhouette. The direction of the silhouette is also similar in both the logos. Both the logos have the name of the league written at the bottom.
Although the similarities are striking, MLB spears to play safe rather than sorry and is assessing the situation. The delay in filing of the appeal also suggests that they want to be prepared if they take it legal.

MLB also has remarkable similarities with the NBA logo. Although there has never been any issue and both the sports have managed to exist independently without obstructing each other.
MLB is given a July 26 deadline to contest the logo by the Trial and Appeal board. The rest depends on the board to decide if the similarities are significant.
Morrison / Lee, a law firm, published the news in the blogpost of their website. it said “Parties who believe they may be harmed by the impending registration of the mark have 30 days to file one of two things with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board: an opposition to the trademark or a request for more time to file that opposition,” Morrison & Lee said.” Organization logos are their identity and it is within their right to defend them if they believe they are being counterfeited.
