Carlsberg beer has been on the market since 1847, and was founded by J.C. Jacobsen. The beer was first exported to Scotland in 1868, and samples were sent to Rangoon, Singapore, Calcutta, and Hong Kong in 1869.
Carlsberg whose tagline is “Probably the Best Beer in the World”, has a number of brands under its umbrella. Carlsberg Export recently revamped its identity by unveiling a logo and packaging design. This revamping was done in an attempt to overcome the identity crises the brand was going through over the last few years. The Carlsberg group aimed at giving Carlsberg Export a premium and welcoming look that is not only clean and simple, but also a little humorous. Carlsberg group says it is “the first step towards revitalizing its flagship brand”.
The new logo and packaging design of the premium beer brand was done by Taxi Studio, one of the UK’s leading design studios. Taxi Studio re-imagined the branding and incorporated the brand’s roots, which are Danish, into its new branding.
The new logo and packaging design consists of a new color palette, along with wood effect. The slashed ‘O’ not also gives a playful effect, but also links the brand to its Danish roots. The Ø is used as a letter in the Danish alphabets. Just beneath the logo we can see the founder’s signature- J. C. Jacobsen.
The new packing will be rolled out for the British market in February, let’s see when it is rolled out for the rest of the world, or will new branding be limited to the British market?
I think Taxi Studio did an excellent job in designing the new logo and packaging of Carlsberg Export. It has given it a professional look and has meticulously linked it to its roots.
